World War I letters, 1917-1919.

Correspondence and miscellaneous papers of Carl Oscar Nelson (1894-1965), principally to his fiance (later wife) Edith W. Rignell (1893-1981), documenting a vacation trip to Sarona, Wisconsin (May 1917), their marriage (June 4, 1917), and his service in and around Bordeaux and Dinard, France, with Company B, 32nd Engineers, American Expeditionary Forces. The letters describe in great detail Nelson's social life, travels, and impressions in France; they do not detail his military experiences.

Carl Oscar Nelson was born in Minneapolis, August 6, 1894. to Rev. Ole Akesson and Ella W. (Holmes) Nelson. He married Edith W.Rignell, June 4, 1917, in Minneapolis. He was graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1921. Ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1924, he served parishes in Iowa and Minneapolis. He died in Minneapolis, August 25, 1965.
